About Christopher Young

Christopher Young was born 1957 in Redbanks, New Jersey. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music and the North Texas State University. Christopher’s career in film music started in the 1980’s with the film The Power. He soon became the hottest ticket in horror film composing but it was his original music for Hellraiser and it’s sequel, Hellbound:Hellraiser that helped cement him as one of the greatest composers in the horror film genre.

As Christopher’s career developed he started to venture into other areas. We have seen him create unique and inventive music for mainstream movies like Species, Copycat, Hard Rain, Entrapment, and Wonder Boys. His music for Murder in the First was dramatically and emotionally one of the strongest of its time and very different from the sound you would normally associate with him. This versatility has helped him move successfully into other areas with low-key dramas like Sweet November and The Shipping News the latter earning him a Golden Globe nomination.

In 1995 Christopher teamed up with director Jon Amiel for the movie Copycat. This led to a working relationship that saw them work together on four films to date. All of them gave Christopher the opportunity to explore new genres, especially in the case of the spy comedy, The Man Who Knew Too Little starring Bill Murray. With the stunning music for the action movie The Core Young wrote one of Hollywood’ s finest and most underrated scorers in 2003.

In addition to his successful career and his teaching activity at the UCLA, Christopher remains busy with what he does best: Recently he has scored two of this year’s biggest blockbuster movies - Spiderman 3 and Ghost Rider.
